Sanding, Priming, Painting and Staining

Today was a beautiful day. I sanded down the front of the house one more time. After that, I painted the front wall and two dividers with the Benjamin Moore paint color that my daughter chosen. It's an ocean blue/teal color. After that, I primed the other side of the dividers and the front of the gable.

My husband was nice and stained the three floors. The wood has some bizarre splotchy pattern, though. My husband has stained many times before and not once have we seen this behavior. Hopefully, they will look better once they are sanded and stained again.

Tape Wire and Interior Doors

Well, I am getting closer to actually putting this house together. So I figured that it was time to purchase the Large House Wiring Kit, Electrical Piercing Tool and Parts and two interior doors.

Everything arrived today! I really need to get more accomplished on the house this weekend. Hopefully, it will be nice!

North Park Kit and RGT Group

Well, according to RGT, this kit should be at least 99% plywood. It is possible that some small pieces of MDF are included in the kit. I think that if my husband OKs it, I will just purchase the kit, anyway. I really love the variety of kits that RGT offers. Also, they have such a wonderful fan group on Facebook. I have received wonderful advice there!

Sanding and Planning

Well, today I spent the day sanding. I only sanded the front wall and the two sidewalls, though. I will have to finish my sanding of the main house pieces next weekend.

Also, I decided that if I get to purchase a dollhouse for myself, I would like to purchase the North Park kit from Real Good Toys. Originally, I wanted the Walton from the same company, with an addition and a conservatory. Pretty much all of their kits contain MDF, though. I picked the North Park kit because of its size and because it says that it made entirely of Plywood. I will have to e-mail the company tomorrow and see if this is actually the case!

I guess that I am a bit of a plywood snob. However, I have already mentioned my reasons behind why I like plywood houses so much. Also, after doing some research online, I am not comfortable sanding MDF. So having an all plywood kit is important to me.

Priming Several Of The Other Pieces

Today was a great day for priming! I primed the wall dividers, the front panel again since my husband said that it did not look like I even primed that piece, the two side panels and the dormer piece for the attic. I learned that I do not like the foam brushes for paining. I found little foam bits on each of the pieces. I guess I will have to sand them out tomorrow!

A Small Issue

Well, we have encountered a small issue. Several of the boards are not flat. I didn't notice this until after I primed the front of this piece. It is possible that it was like this before priming, though. I painted on a VERY thin coat of primer. I only noticed this issue because I had it positioned on the table differently than I had it last night. One side of the board is flat and the other side is not. Therefore, it was pretty easy to miss.

Welcome to the Once Upon A Dollhouse blog!

I have had an interest in dollhouses since I was a child. My Grandfather gave me my first dollhouse when I was little. Years went by and then one Christmas I was given miniatures to furnish the house! Many more years went by and no one seems to remember what happened to the house. It was most likely donated with many of my other childhood toys. :(

Now, that I am adult, I have decided to get back into this hobby again. My daughter asked me if she could have the Calico Critters for her birthday. She wanted a house for her Critters to live in. I decided that rather than buying her a second plastic dollhouse, she already had the Loving Family dollhouse, I would buy her one good dollhouse that she could use from now on.

She decided on the Vermont Farmhouse Junior from Real Good Toys. I purchased the Milled Plywood version of this kit from toysandgamesonline.com and the finishing kit. The finishing kit is not made entirely of wood, but I am not as concerned about the trim. I would like the actual house to be made entirely of wood, though.

Fast forward to today. The dollhouse arrived and it is waiting to be put together!
